The municipality’s annual spring clean up has been and gone but homeowners and apartment dwellers now have the ideal opportunity to sort through unwanted items to generate a little cash. No need to experience the hassle of your own garage sale as volunteers of Boundary Bay Park Association have announced plans for the 13th consecutive season of South Delta’s popular summer event, the car boot sales at Centennial Beach parking area.
The first sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 11th. at 8.30 am and from then on will be held every second and fourth Saturday, June through August and the second Saturday of September, weather permitting. The second sale will be Saturday, June 25th.
Prospective vendors can load up their vehicle and head to Centennial Beach Parking area in Boundary Bay Regional Park which is simple to find, turn left off Boundary Beach Road at Cammidge House and follows signs to the designated area.
Reservations are not required and the only cost is $10 which provides two spaces – one for the vehicle and one for the goods. Vendors are asked to arrive at 8.00am and set up ready for opening at 8.30am. Volunteers are on hand to assist and also have a few ground sheets as loaners. Closing time and dismantling of displays is 12 noon with the space to be cleared by 12.30pm.
FRANK ROGERS, President of the Boundary Bay Park Association is happy to offer a few tips to vendors setting up for the first time and suggests “Think about what will actually sell before you load up your vehicle; be realistic about pricing but certainly don’t give it away and place price stickers on your items ahead of time; bring along a ground sheet, blanket etc to display items — bring appropriate change and arrive early so you will be well prepared”.
Some local residents enjoy an early morning walk along the dyke and end up at the boot sale to browse through a variety of items, household goods, garden tools, crafts, clothing, jewelry etc. to seek out a sought after treasure. However for families wishing to drive there is lots of free parking, a playground close by for the children and coffee and cookies will be sold in the BBPA tent at the sale.
In case of inclement weather the sale may be cancelled and such information is posted on the Park Association’s website at wwwboundarybayparkassociation.wordpress.com. In the meantime additional information is available by phoning Tom at 604.940.9296.
Additional sale dates for the season will be Saturdays, June 25, July 9 and 23, August 13 and 27 and September 10th . Any cancellations due to inclement weather will be posted on this website.
